Vinayagar (Ganesh ) Chathurthi Special - Spicy (Kara) Kozhukattai
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup of Rice
- 3 Cups of Water
- 1 medium size coconut (Grated )
- 4 to 5 Green Chillies
- 1 table spoon of Channa Dhal for seasoning
- 1 table Spoon of Urud Dhal for seasoning
- 7-8 Curry Leaves for seasoning
- 1/2 table spoon of cumin (Jeera) - (semi-broken)
- Few coriander leavers chopped
- 1/4 Cup of Sambar Onion ( chopped )
- 2-3 table spoon of oil
- Salt as per the requirement
- 2 Red Chillis ( Optional )
Grinding
- Keep rice in a cup and soak them in the water for about 4 to 5 hours
- After the due time, filter the water and grind the rice with fresh water till it becomes coarse state
- Now add the grated coconut to mixture and further grind it for 5 to 10 minutes
- Note that you have to stop grinding before it becomes smooth paste
- After grinding add required amount of salt
- Heat 2-3 table spoon of oil in a thick bottomed pan
- Once it becomes hot, fry Channa dhal, Urud dhal, chopped onion and curry leaves (till onion becomes little golden brown)
- Now pour the grinded mix to the pan and head them by stirring till it becomes semi solid state
- Add the semi-broken cumin seeds and chopped coriander leaves to the mixture and mix them well
Steaming
- Create small sized (egg sized) shapes out of the semi-solid mixture
- Expose them in Idly stand to steam for a 15 minutes a closed vessel or idly cooker
- Then, carefully take them out of the vessel using a spoon and spared water
- Repeat the procedure for the remaining mixture
- Now the Kara Kozhukattai is Ready !!!
- Serve them Hot with Coconut Chuttny
